July

Finally, we are in the grip of Winter. With the shortest day behind us the temperatures have plummeted, and the days are chilly and dull. It’s our turn for the bleak season, which we can endure swathed in scarves, and merino, puffers, and boots. But there’s a difference this season, for the first time in two years we have choices.

We can either sit out our chilly season, relishing in all the delights winter offers, or pack our bags, stash our boarding passes and head off to the sunny side of the world for a taste of some place else’s summer.

For those who choose to sit out winter it’s time to pamper yourself with the related clothing treats that colder weather offers. It’s a great time for sourcing that new jumper, coat, or merino pant to replace the tired or *moth nibbled ones in your wardrobe. Wool is always a popular choice and Bridge and Lord’s cashmere and merino knitwear is the best. They have done the science on thread count and their non-pilling combinations last for years. Newport, Lania, Siren, Vassalli and Z & P have excelled in their selection of long line cardys, zipper front jumpers, hoodies, V and round neckline jumpers and layering pieces in pure wool or mixed combination wools and cotton mixes.

You’re in luck too because our WINTER SALE has started and if it’s meant to be yours your size and preference will be there.

For the sun seekers, the quick fix summer options to the Island Resorts of Rarotonga and Fiji seems to be the popular family choice right now. Lolling in 30-degree temperatures with a cocktail in the pool after only a three hour plus flight is such a treat, especially now that we don’t seem to take so much for granted.

Our clothing suppliers are upping their anti-again to provide for these summer excursions with options that are Tran seasonal. We’ve had them before, and since the word ’travel’ is now back in our vocabulary they have hastily re-surfaced. These lightweight essentials, the ‘wash at night dry by morning’ basics that can be worn at 30 degrees plus, with comfort are right back in demand. Macjays Paris elastic waisted shorts, ¾ pants and capri or full-length trousers in a rayon/nylon mix with five colour options are right on the mark.

Also making waves on the travel scene are Lania and Newport’s cotton or rayon/nylon combination pants and cargos in full length, ¾, or capri with draw string waist, natty rib details and all with pockets, pockets, pockets.

For those of you hunkering on down or preferring to travel later in the year, there is only good news. Summer starts at Polwarth Design from August 1st with the arrival of our first Spring clothing. No matter what the temperature, there will be an abundance of ‘hot off the press’ garments to select for your travel wardrobe. Spring 2022/23 is all about CHOICE!!!

*Do remember to store your wool in sealed bags during summer, away from crickets, moths and silver fish. Whether you like it or not they do exist.
